Q1 Grading Day!

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

We are really excited here at Wrecking Ball to start the new year with an awesome team and to welcome all the new members who have recently  joined.  And we are also really looking forward to our first grading day of 2012 here at Wrecking Ball. We are rescheduling the Q1 grading day to January 28, 2012… so mark your calendars! This is a great opportunity for all members to support your teammates who have worked hard to earn their next belt promotion in Jiu Jitsu and to cheer on our Muay Thai team members who will be testing for Blue Level. All members are welcome to attend and watch! We will post the list of members who will have to opportunity to test for their bjj belts on Monday, January 9, 2012, and we will post the Muay Thai testing list by January 13. So keep an eye out for them!

As a reminder, the list will include both kids and adults for jiu jitsu, and only adults for Muay Thai at this time.  We will also be awarding belts aligned with the new IBJJF guidelines for kids! If you are interested in learning more about the new belt system, we have some printouts (thanks to Marcelo!) on the front desk. If you are eligible to test, please see Patti at the front desk to sign up and pay the testing fee.  Members will only be scheduled once their testing fees have been paid. All fees are due by Wednesday, January 25th in order to participate in the Q1 testing. We will share an agenda on Thursday, January 26th.

Please feel free to speak to your coaches if you have any questions on the tests. Good luck and congratulations to all the members who have worked  hard to be eligible for Q1 Grading!

2011 NAGA GREAT LAKES GRAPPLING CHAMPIONSHIP
The North American Grappling Association (NAGA) is America's largest mixed grappling tournament circuit with over 130,000 competitors worldwide. On Saturday & Sunday, November 5th & 6th, 2011, NAGA returns to greater Chicago for the NAGA Great Lakes Grappling Championship No-Gi & Gi tournament. This is a two day event; Adults & Teens compete on Saturday, Kids 13 & under compete on Sunday. Come as an individual or as a team to compete. This event is nationally RANKED!

PRE-REGISTER ONLINE HERE or download the registration form, print it out and mail it in to the address on the form along with your check: http://shop.nagafighter.com/naga_cart/store/index.cfm?ac=ShowProducts&CatID=781&ECatID=85&SetCat=1

100 CHAMPIONSHIP BELTS AWARDED
NAGA is the only grappling tournament in the world to award 100 CHAMPIONSHIP BELTS to all its Children, Teen, Adult, Masters, Directors and Executive Expert Division Winners.

SAMURAI SWORDS TO KIDS & TEENS WINNERS
NAGA will be awarding custom engraved SAMURAI SWORDS to all non-expert Kids & Teen 1st place winners! Octagon medals will be awarded to all 2nd & 3rd place winners along with non-expert Adult division winners. Adult competitors who place 1st and win a gold medal will have the opportunity to obtain a samurai sword at the NAGA T-shirt booth for a nominal fee. All children/teens will take home a medal even if they do not place 1st through 3rd for having the courage to compete.

6 SPECTACULAR CHAMPIONSHIP CUP TEAM AWARDS
All 6 of our top teams (Adult Gi, No-Gi & Children 17 yrs. & under) will receive a custom made CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM CUP. Don’t miss this opportunity to showcase the talent that your academy possesses.

TEENS AGES 14,15,16 & 17 YEARS OLD MOVED TO SATURDAY
One of the benefits of competing in a NAGA event is the large number of competitors it attracts. With the large number of children grapplers 13 years old and younger, we have decided to run them exclusively on Sunday and move the Teen (14-17 years old) divisions to Saturday. We hope you like this new format as it will help the Sunday tournament end earlier. We understand trying to keep a child’s attention for an entire day is tough; this change will help alleviate this.

FREE CHAMPION GI PATCH
All Children, Teens & Adults who place 1st in any of our Gi Divisions (White Belt through Black Belt) will receive a NAGA Great Lakes Champion Gi patch. These patches are not sold, only earned by the best Gi competitors in the U.S.!

NATIONALLY RANKED EVENT
All NAGA events are part of the nationwide ranking system entitled RANKED. Our goal is to determine who the best grapplers in the country are for various age, gender, and skill levels. This tournament will be nationally ranked so do not miss your opportunity to gain points towards a true national title . More details can be found at www.nationallyranked.com.

SANDBAGGERS BEWARE
NAGA works diligently to prevent "sandbagging", or the practice of fighting down skill levels to ensure one takes home an award. NAGA has been working with RANKED to track all fighters and ranked grappling events to produce true "national standings." A by-product of these standings is our knowledge of who has competed and at which level. Front door personnel will use RANKED data to determine whether or not individuals who have fought in past events belong in a higher skill level (i.e. placed 1st at a prior NAGA event).
